Kidney Stones

Rapid diagnosis, acute pain management, and minimally invasive stone removal.

Comprehensive Stone Care

Kidney stones can cause sudden, excruciating pain when they travel down the urinary tract. At Urology Center of Orange County, we prioritize rapid evaluation and effective relief for patients suffering from acute renal colic.

Our approach emphasizes utilizing the least invasive method possible to clear the stones, followed by a metabolic evaluation to prevent future stone formation.

Common Symptoms

  • Severe pain in the back, side, abdomen, or groin
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Blood in the urine (hematuria)
  • Frequent, urging, or painful urination

Treatment Options

  • Medical Expulsive Therapy (MET)
Medication to help dilate the ureter and allow smaller stones to pass naturally.
  • Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL)
Using targeted sound waves from outside the body to break the stone into passable fragments.
  • Ureteroscopy with Laser Lithotripsy
A minimally invasive procedure where a small scope is passed into the bladder and ureter, using a laser to break up and extract the stone.
  • Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL)
For very large or complex stones directly inside the kidney.
